    Description
    Position begins July 1, 2024 for the 2024-25 academic year. VVS seeks a Director of Advancement for a multi-cultural and experiential co-ed boarding and day school nestled in the valley overlooking Cathedral Rock in Sedona, Arizona. As VVS classes are inherently international, cultural sensitivity is highly valued. Candidates must be willing to engage wholeheartedly in all facets of boarding school life. Salary commensurate with other small schools, with a benefits package that includes year-round housing and meals on campus while school is in session. 

    The school is seeking an experienced Director of Advancement to lead and manage its fundraising, friendraising, and alumni outreach efforts. This position reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for strategically promoting the school’s brand, cultivating relationships with key constituent groups, and soliciting gifts that support the school’s mission. The Director of Advancement collaborates extensively with the Director of Enrollment Management to oversee all external communications ensuring that the school maintains a clear and consistent voice to its stakeholders.

    Timeline
    Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interviews will be conducted via Google Meet, and a select group of finalists will be invited to campus to meet with additional stakeholders including staff, board members, and the administrative team. We hope to sign a contract of employment by mid-April.

    Key Responsibilities
    The Director of Advancement is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans to raise funds for Verde Valley School. Specific duties include: 
    • Overseeing and managing fundraising efforts, building strong and successful relationships, maintaining communications with donors and patrons, and collaborating with staff effectively to execute fundraising activities. 
    • Maintaining strong relationships within the global and local communities of VVS.
    • Serving on the Advancement Committee of the Board and helping to set (and meet) annual plans and fundraising goals.
    • Increasing alumni and (grand)parental support of VVS.
    • Overseeing gift processing, in conjunction with the business office, for the purpose of providing receipts and acknowledgement letters.
    • Providing expert guidance in the development of strategic data mapping within the Blackbaud suite of products for VVS.
    • Educating potential donors on planned giving opportunities including, but not limited to estate planning, gifts of securities, and corporate matching donations.
    • Together with the Director of Enrollment Management, setting and maintaining professional writing and design standards for school communications. 
    • Other duties assigned by the Head of School.
    Qualifications
    • Authentic desire to elevate Verde Valley School and to embrace/advance its mission.
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or other applicable field, master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum 2 years of advancement experience and a strong understanding of best practices in independent school philanthropy.
    • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, plan, and cohesively integrate a full range of advancement programs.
    • Event management experience and passion for community social events.
    • Excellent marketing and communication skills, both oral and written, and a passion for constituent relations, including volunteer and alumni engagement.
    • Fluency with donor tracking software, proficiency using Raiser’s Edge preferred.
    • Ability to provide meaningful, productive engagement opportunities for volunteers assisting with the advancement initiatives.
    • Skilled problem-solver and critical, strategic thinker who will meet challenges with creative and effective solutions.
    • Resourceful, committed, self-directed, and goal-oriented with an entrepreneurial spirit, a strong work ethic, and keen attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with IRS regulations as they relate to philanthropic giving and industry accounting and reporting standards.
    • Experience in a not-for-profit environment is preferred.

    Job Description
    Verde Valley School seeks a skilled and enthusiastic Humanities teacher with the ability to teach English Literature grades 9 – 12 as well as an interest in and ability to teach additional classes in the Humanities should the need arise. .  Through reading and discussing a range of literary works, students develop their critical reading and analytical writing skills.  Humanities classes at VVS include seminar discussions, frequent opportunities to practice and receive feedback on their analytical writing as well as creative and collaborative projects.  A belief that all students can develop the reading and writing skills necessary for college and beyond coupled with an affinity for differentiating instruction for a wide range of students are hallmarks of the VVS English faculty.

    In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty lead one extracurricular sport/activity twice each week.  In terms of residential duty, faculty supervise students one evening per week and one weekend per month.  Verde Valley is proud of its experiential education programs.  Faculty are responsible for co-leading a ten-day experiential education travel program throughout the Southwest during the fall.  In the spring, faculty lead an eight-day on-campus project-based program on a topic outside their discipline.  
     
    Verde Valley School is a residential community.  On-campus housing and meals at the dining hall are provided.

    ·   Experience differentiating instruction for a wide range of learners

    Job Description:
    Verde Valley School seeks a skilled and enthusiastic high school science teacher to teach lab science courses in a college prep boarding school committed to experiential education. The ideal candidate will be comfortable teaching across science disciplines and have the knowledge and skills necessary to teach in our 9th and 10th grade Physical Science program as well as our IB Environmental Science program. Teachers at Verde Valley School employ experiential, student-centered methods to engage a wide variety of students in the study of science. All courses are taught with an inquiry-based approach with the teacher guiding students to question, explore, collect and analyze data using the scientific method. The course is a two-year course that culminates with the completion of IB assessments in the senior year.

    The ideal candidate is someone who truly loves working with adolescents and is ready to fully immerse in all facets of boarding school life on our rustic desert campus. In addition to classroom teaching, each faculty member supervises students one evening per week, one weekend per month, and twice each week for campus work jobs. Each faculty member leads one extracurricular activity or sport twice each week and is responsible for advising 4-5 students. Most faculty members lead a 2-week wilderness & service trip throughout the Southwest each November. Meals in our dining hall are provided. On-campus housing may be available, space-permitting.

    Job Description:
    Verde Valley School seeks a skilled and enthusiastic high school math teacher experienced with teaching a wide range of learners across grade levels.   All courses are taught with an emphasis on developing skills and enduring understanding in the subject area with the teacher serving as coach, guiding students to question, explore, collect and analyze data, solve complex problems and persist in the face of challenge.  The VVS math program culminates with IB Mathematics offered at three different levels in 11th and 12th grade. 

    The ideal candidate is someone who loves engaging adolescents of all abilities in the study of math and who is comfortable differentiating instruction and developing a wide range of assessment modes to meet the needs of all learners.  Depending on the experience of the candidate and the needs of the cohort, this position may include teaching a math lab or academic support course in addition to math courses.

    Position Summary:
    Reports to the Dean of Students
    The School Counselor, as a member of the student care team, is responsible for advocating and
    supporting the social, mental, and emotional health of 120 boarding and day students in grades 9-12.
    Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
    ● Provide individual/group counseling to students on an as-needed or emergency basis.
    ● Work with families and refer students, when appropriate, to outside mental health providers.
    ● Work with the Administration Team to develop relationships with outside mental health providers.
    ● Provide real-time crisis support when a student is in critical need.
    ● Reside on campus in campus housing and participate in residential life duty teams.
    ● Be an active member of the VVS community including attending meals, participating in activities, and actively engaging in the lives of the students in our care.
    ● Serve as a resource and consultant on adolescent student mental health for all students and staff.
    ● Coordinate, enhance, and teach the school’s Social and Emotional Learning course.
    ● Think holistically and develop school wide programs around wellness at VVS
    Minimum Requirements/ Qualifications / Competencies:
    ● Must hold, or is able to obtain, a current AZ school counselor license in a mental health field, and/or a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
    ● At least 3 years of work experience preferably in an independent school environment.
    ● Strong communicator, creative problem solvers, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    ● Competent with Google Apps for Education
